About PRCC
The mission of the Puerto Rican Committee of Lancaster is to promote and safeguard the image art and culture of the Puerto Rican and broader Hispanic Communities of Lancaster City and County. Its programs and services also provide a positive social foundation within the mainstream community of Lancaster County so that the quality of life for everyone continues to improve. The Puerto Rican Committee is a non-profit, 501c3 organization.
This Hispanic Cultural Center is "one stop shop" for citizens to access services such as interpreters, budget and housing counseling, domestic skills training and computer classes. The facility anticipates serving over 200 students attending middle and high schools in the School District of Lancaster with programs that include healthy life-style courses that include cooking classes to manage diabetes and obesity. Classes will also focus on preparing students, both young and adult, to use technology in their jobs so they can become employed or be prepared to step up to better jobs. This preparation for the job market should help all businesses in the area build a stronger workforce. Another goal of the Center’s programs is to recruit “graduates” to assist in training and coaching new participants.
Other programs will help the members and the community access transportation, public assistance, literacy classes, health and emergency training, and classes for those aspiring to own their own home. All of these programs will be provided in collaboration with established non-profit agencies in the community.
This beautifully restored historic building is available to the community for special events, parties, dances, & meetings and to serve as the hub of civic life in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is undergoing rapid, positive change.
Other community groups are providing support for remodeling of neighboring buildings, community safety programs are active and growing. The city is increasing services in the area, including policing. The exterior lighting of the facility and the security cameras will make the area safe for all who visit.
The most exciting and entertaining function of the Center will be to exhibit Hispanic art, music and dance. Other forms of art and culture will also be on exhibit.
Please join the Puerto Rican community in the efforts to expand the Prince Street Arts Corridor in Lancaster with this newly remodeled, historic building in Lancaster. All are welcome! |
